Open letter to save the public school

OPEN LETTER

Many reasons lead us to publish some thoughts shared in small groups friends and colleagues, the plight of the Italian school today.

First there is the hope that it will rise to a common, extended to all those who, beyond the political spectrum, agree on the value of school as an engine of any democratic society, to affirm the need, not to defend the school as it is, but to improve it. Then there is the will of circulating information and thoughts to open up and return us to the pleasure and duty to discuss civil issues and towards a reappraisal of policy that sees, as active and proactive, the citizens.

The facts:
  • The public school is not money: the default by the Ministry in respect of government school generates the cutting off of funds or reducing their concern, not only for projects and extra curricular para, but also the costs of routine management (chalk, cleaning, toilet paper, maintenance). The cut of Education was set at eight billion euro.

  • missing personnel: Extra hours are not reliable, mainly, to in-service teachers, but students are left alone or in classes or are sent home. The workforce reduction was calculated for 130,000 people, including teachers and non teaching staff, by 2012

  • E 'provided a significant increase in the number of pupils per class in the next two school years.

  • The Lombardy Region provides the bottom on the right to study for 80% of private school students who are, for now, the 9% of the regional school.

  • Brescia this year the private school enrollment had increased by 4.94%.

  • Next year will come into force a reform of high school, influenced primarily by budgetary reasons: the standard timetable of the various materials, which together produces a loss of hours and job has been determined independently by the programs, which are now final.

  • E 'was in fact abolished, without ever really was introduced, the alternative subject, failing as set by the Concordat of 1984.

You would think that if the school is falling apart, the private school can be a space for learning and education for our youth. The Constitution, which recognizes the freedom of choice and allows the establishment of private schools "without cost to the state" (art. 33), subject to a public school in the central reasons for not There seem to be less, if only because it is a place to meet and institutional pluralism: the Italian nation, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary, is irreplaceable in the public schools a chance of encounter between different social classes, cultures, and ideals, in order to re-establish and consolidate multiple identities and dialogue.

Therefore, we propose:

  • to adhere to government initiatives that the Committee of the Parents and school administrators Calini Brescia offers

  • to circulate this open letter and other materials to help enhance the level Information on the current situation

  • to find a moment of public meeting to share effective strategies.

awareness that school is an area of \u200b\u200bcultural, social and emotional measures in which the civilization of a people we are particularly concerned about the indifference which is rooted in such a difficult situation: the time has come, of Faced with the urgency of the problems so evident, that there is compact and mobilize to protect the future of this country, certain that any exit from the crisis will be possible without greater investment in education.
